    Description

    SUMMARY

    Enforces laws related to the protection of life and property, directs and controls traffic, prevents crime or disturbance of peace, and arrests violators by performing the following duties.

    **This position is safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    To perform this position successfully, an individual(s) must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Patrols assigned area to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, and answer calls and complaints.

    Answers radio-dispatch or citizens' requests for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and peace disturbances.

    Familiarizes self with assigned area and with persons residing in the area.

    Investigates illegal or suspicious activities, persons, and establishments; quells disturbances.

    Locates, searches, detains, and arrests law violators, following recognized police procedures.

    Interviews and questions victims, witnesses, and suspects.

    Gathers and preserves evidence.

    Performs first aid and provides other assistance to accident and other victims.

    Investigates causes and results of accidents, and unusual or suspicious conditions.

    Directs and controls traffic.

    Issues written citations for traffic and other minor violations; serves warrants.

    Inspects public establishments requiring licenses to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

    Conducts security checks on commercial buildings and residences.

    Arrest persons suspected of misdemeanors or felonies.

    Maintains vehicle and personal assigned equipment.

    Guards and transports, detainees

    Performs jail duty as assigned.

    Operates police communication and computer equipment to obtain, disseminate, and report information.

    Addresses and works with community groups to promote good public relations, to inform citizens of police activities, crime prevention and crime problems.

    Writes accurate, timely, detailed incident, investigation, activity, and other reports.

    Testifies in court as needed to present evidence by describing conditions, situations, and actions.

    Assist other agencies and departments as assigned.

    Performs related duties as assigned.


     

    Requirements

    EDUCATION

    Successful completion of a certified police academy

    Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    Prior experience and/or training is preferred but not required.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

    Texas Class "C" driver's License in good standing required.

    Basic Peace Officer Certification from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education

Utility Supervisor

The Utility Supervisor for the City of Danbury performs a wide variety of administrative, managerial, and technical duties associated with directing and overseeing the responsibilities of the Public Works Department in relation to water distribution, wastewater collection/treatment, streets, drainage, parks, grounds maintenance, and general facilities maintenance. Performs other duties as required. The Public Works Supervisor is responsible for all public works employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Assumes management responsibility for all Public Works services and activities.

Directs employees in the Public Works Department by providing instruction on assignments and activities, guiding employees to perform tasks satisfactorily and ensuring duties are completed in a timely manner.

Monitors water distribution system and wastewater collection/treatment system for compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations.

Ensures all regulatory reports and deadlines are adhered to.

Oversees and participates in the installation and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Monitors and maintains adequate inventory, keeps accurate records for proper internal controls and accountability of materials.

Works "on call" to handle urgent or emergency work as needed.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards and policies.

Notifies the Mayor of any known regulatory violations, inspections, notices, investigations, or enforcement actions.

Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

Must meet one of the following educational requirements: High School Graduate or GED

Must possess and maintain valid, current Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Must have supervisory experience in Public Works or related field.

Must possess Class "C" water and wastewater licenses issued by TCEQ or be able to attain both in 6 months.

Must be able to operate typical machinery, tools, and equipment used to complete public works duties.

Must successfully complete driver's license and background checks.

Knowledge of:

Operating procedures, materials, safety procedures, and equipment involved in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of department infrastructure and functions.

Emergency, routine, and preventative maintenance programs. Supervisory principles and practices involving work prioritization and scheduling, coordinating manpower, equipment, materials, employee motivation, evaluation, and training.

Basic methods and techniques of general construction related to water/wastewater; public works; or the area of work assigned.

General city and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

Skills/Ability to:

Physically perform the essential functions of the job.

Demonstrate effective communication of ideas both verbally and in written form using the English language.

Sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, drag, and/or lift items, listen in person and over the telephone, communicate orally and use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate equipment.

Work extended hours, beyond the scheduled eight (8) hour shift as a result of operational necessities.

Effectively interact with other City Departments, subordinates, and coworkers to accomplish work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Class “C” Wastewater Operator License issued by TCEQ

Class “C” Water Distribution License issued by TCEQ

Valid Texas Driver's License
